Add and Subtract Mixed Fractions  
 

Recall that mixed fractions can also be expressed as improper fractions. In order to add or subtract mixed fractions, we first change to the improper fractions and then add or subtract according to the rules for adding and subtracting simple fractions.

To solve, follow these steps:    
1. Change the mixed fractions to improper.
2. Add or subtract the numerators.
3. Simplify
