Divide Fractions
To divide two fractions, we must change the expression to multiplication. To do this we use the reciprocal of the divisor (second fraction). Here are the steps:
- Change any mixed fractions to improper.
- Change the division sign to multiplication
- Take the reciprocal of the divisor (the second fraction)
- Multiply the numerators and denominators.
- Simplify the fraction.
Example
When dividing fractions you do not need a common denominator as you do when adding and subtracting fractions.
