What is the UTC?

The Urban Teacher Corps (UTC) is a teacher development program housed at Phoenix College in Phoenix, Arizona. The program supports and encourages urban classified school district employees as they matriculate from one of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges to the Arizona State University, obtain teacher certification and go back to their district schools as teachers.

When can I apply?

You can apply to the UTC program at any time of the year. It is
recommended, though, you apply before the regular class semester starts, that is July for fall semester and December for the spring semester. If you have your Associate Degree and want to apply to ASU, applications will need to be submitted two semesters in advance.

Arizona State University, Main campus.

How long will it take to earn my degree?

Time varies from participant to participant. If enrolled full-time at the community college (i.e. 12-15 credit hours per semester) it will take you approximately 2 to 2.5 years to complete your Associates degree. If you are taking courses on a part-time basis, then it will take you longer. Once you are tranferred to ASU Main campus, it will take you about 2 more years to graduate.

Are there scholarships available for UTC Participants?

Yes. ASU College of Education has scholarships specially designed for UTC participants. The college also offers numerous scholarships for Education students, as well as the community colleges.

Can I join the UTC program but plan to attend to another university instead of ASU?

No. This partnership is between the Maricopa County Community Colleges District (MCCCD) and Arizona State University (ASU) Main campus. Participants complete requirements for an Associate Transfer Partnership degree at any of the MCCCD campus then transfer to ASU Main campus as juniors to obtain their Bachelor of Arts degree.
