HLC CRITERION ONE MEETING

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 2004

HC-3

Attendance:  Judy Boschult, Mary Davison, Linda Garcia, Kathy Green, Michael Hubbs, Brent Jameson, Willie Jones, Liz Ligon, Sylvia Phillips, Denny Sheehan.

The meeting came to order at 1:30 p.m. Chairperson Sheehan addressed the following items:

Review of Writers’ Group Meeting: Denny asked Judy Boschult to share ideas from the Nov. 15 meeting of the writers’ group.  She summarized the previous day’s discussion of the wording “best practice” versus “example of evidence.”  The writers would prefer the wording “example of evidence” to be used when writing about each core component.  She also discussed the suggestion of a retreat between the Criterion chairpersons and the writers.  The writers were strongly in favor of such a retreat.

Core Component 1C information.  Preliminary information about technology was shared with the committee, since technology is one of the examples of evidence being considered for elaboration under core component 1C.  Additional information is forth coming.

Core Component 1D.  The committee then discussed possible examples of evidence to be considered under this component.  The curriculum process was discussed as one consideration as was the process of how committees on campus carry out their work. 

Discussion then followed about the need to evaluate the process of committees, etc., resulting in conversation about the “committee blueprint” document circulated by the Dean of Instruction’s office.

Apparently some committees in early fall 2004 were given the “blueprint” to use in beginning business for the 2004-05 academic year.  Brent Jameson indicated his willingness to find a copy of the document.

The meeting adjourned at 2:45 p.m.
