The Sustainable Building Advisory (SBA) Program is a certificate course for working professionals in careers related to the built environment, which provides students with the opportunity to earn the designation of Certified Sustainable Building Advisor (CSBA).  Over a period of four months and 100+ hours, students explore and actively learn about the many facets of sustainable building -- taught by local experts in the topics who incorporate regional issues into the content delivery.  The course has been approved by the U.S. Green Building Council's Education Provider Program at the highest level (400), and is eligible for 100 learning units through the American Institute of Architects.

Photovoltaic (Solar Energy) Entry Level course

Photovoltaic (PV) devices generate electricity directly from the sunlight.  Successful candidates achieving the PV Entry Level Program will have the basic knowledge of solar electricity suitable for a supervised, entry-level position with a dealer and/or installer or other PV industry company.  This program will be a way for a student to demonstrate basic knowledge, comprehensive and application of key terms and concepts of photovoltaic (solar electric) systems operations as recognized by North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP).  The learning objectives are PV markets and applications, safety basics, electricity basics, solar energy fundamentals, PV module fundamentals, system components, PV system sizing, PV system electrical design, PV system mechanical design, and performance analysis and troubleshooting.

Energy audit / BPI Envelope Shell training

Our homes produce nearly 20% of the nation’s carbon footprint. The ability to make homes more energy efficient represents a potential one-third reduction in energy usage and a corresponding reduction of over 262 million metric tons of greenhouse gases while creating 220,000 jobs. To accomplish this task, energy audit training programs are being rapidly established to provide professionals and college graduates with the skills to analyze structures for weatherization and efficiency improvements. Applying these green building and renovation techniques will position candidates to enter the emerging $60 billion green construction market.

 

BPI Envelope Shell professional certification course is a BPI residential specialization that focuses on the building thermal and pressure boundaries and the ways to enhance the envelope through insulation and air sealing techniques.  As an individual this course will prepare you to understand not only how to analyze a home, but help you understand why the process is so important.  It is important to understand not only what is happening, but why problems related to the building envelope such as moisture, ice dams, mildew and drafts were created in the first place.

 

Course Description:

This program gives you the knowledge to understand the relationship between all interconnected systems of a house as key to its overall performance, efficiency, and durability.  Geared for HERS raters, home inspectors, HVAC professionals, insulation professionals, general contractors, homebuilders, engineers with a four-year degree and other construction professionals.  Course fee includes classroom training (one full day plus two half-days), field training (two half days), course materials, study materials, BPI application and exams.  32 hours of instruction.

Resnet HERS Rater

HERS Rater training will teach you the knowledge necessary to provide homeowners and home builders a detailed analysis of energy consumption and money saving energy conservation strategies.  In this course you will learn how to help builders and architects improve home energy efficiency using the house-as-a-system approach.  We will teach you the basics of building science, energy modeling, and how to conduct a rating on a home.
