Add and Subtract Decimals

The secret to adding and subtracting decimal fractions, is to line up the decimal point.
Here are a few examples:

1) 5.3 + 2.45       2) 0.97 - 0.0225        3) 98.7 + 2,340        4) 100.07 - 0.19

Steps for Adding and Subtracting Decimals.

  1. Write the problem with one decimal written above the other and their decimal points aligned.
  2. Insert zeroes on the right where needed to fill the column
  3. Add or subtract down.
