CRITERION #5 SUBCOMMITTEE MEETING

November 11, 2004

Present: Brent, Sara, Cheryl, Nan, Trino

Queta has talked to different committee members and some have agreed to help with data collection though they cannot make the meetings.

Queta gave everyone a hand-out of the questions for interviewing when we are collecting the data and the minutes from the last meeting. To the questions she will add a preface explaining what it is we want and what we are trying to do. We will be interviewing the person who is in charge of the program or the person who can tell us about the program. It may appear to be a lot of questions, but to this point this is the best way to get the information that we need.

Hand out of committee assignment chart that shows all the information that we want to collect and who is in charge of gathering that information. The best thing to do may be to send everyone a copy of the questions and have them turn this information in to us. Then with all the information we gather we can evaluate and synthesize.

Sara worked on creating an introduction to our section. The initial draft of this was handed out to review. The committee read and made a few modifications to it. The draft will be updated, changed and information added as we collect it. Sara noted the suggestions and will make the necessary changes to the introduction.

Queta handed out and explained the faculty survey that was created by the chairs. The section most related to this committee is Section III. Community Activities. Need to add continuing education credits. For this section would it be good to title it Learning-based Community Activities? We can also add clinics/free services to the survey.

Define example of evidence: what would be considered a good example, what would be selected as a best practice and how would we know it is one? What would be some considerations to look at to evaluate data and see what a best practice is? Some criteria for a best practice are:

  • Have components of identifying needs, planning/developing, implementing, assess response, and evaluation.
  • Made changes/implemented from assessment and evaluation.

Meetings were set for the Spring semester. The committee decided to add third Thursdays from 2:00 – 4:00 as well as the first Monday’s from 1:30 – 3:30.
