HLC Criterion 3 Meeting Notes

November 15, 2004

The HLC Criterion 3 Subcommittee met November 15, 2004.  In attendance were Mike Mitchell, Chair; Kristin Anderson; Gileana Raheem; Pam Rogers; Joy Fitzpatrick; and Don Richardson.  (Several members were absent with prior notification to the chair.)

Mike convened the group by announcing plans for next semester.  We will be discussing the draft report and the quality of our data meeting this criterion.  The meetings will be more in the spirit of actual evaluation rather than of collecting data.  Thus, we will be evaluating the subcriteria with the understanding that all data are to be archived.

Don reported from a meeting of the writers that the final report will not feature Best Practices; instead, the term Examples of Evidence will be used.  This is because some of our practices which must be focused on are the only ones of their kind.  In addition, each criterion group is asked to let the others know which Examples it will be using.  So far we in criterion 3 have indicated we will use the curriculum process, the FEP, and Strategic Planning.

Most of the meeting was spent reviewing the brainstorming of evidence for 3d.

After discussion, it was agreed that the December 6th meeting will be canceled.  Meetings next semester will be as follows:

            February 7       2:003:30

            March 7           2:003:30

            April 4              2:003:30

            April 25            2:003:30

There are two meetings in April since the draft of Criterion 3 is due in April.  Thus, we will be evaluating the data and approving a final draft.  All meetings are to be in the multi-purpose room in the library.

Respectfully,

Don Richardson
