HIM DEPARTMENT

Vision: The Health Information Management Department is recognized as the training center for health care data and medical information processing for the health care industry in Maricopa county and surrounding areas.

Mission: Phoenix College Health Information Management Programs provide quality occupational training to individuals seeking entry-level employment, career enhancement, and personal enrichment in the management of health information. The Programs are dedicated to responding to community needs and to technological advancements affecting health information professions.

2003-2004 Objectives:

1. Work with AZ Cancer Registry to enhance and finalize proposed cancer registry curriculum.

2. Continue the cooperative off-campus training efforts with local healthcare organizations as opportunities are presented.

3. Further market the new Medical coding - Hospital Based Coding Certificate Program both internally and externally.

4. Identify additional HIT courses with the potential for alternative deliver formats.

5. Develop coding assessment exams and procedures for CPT courses.

6. Work closely with HCIES, the HIMA of AZ, the Health Programs Advisor, and the PC Marketing Department regarding HIT programs' marketing efforts.

7. Tally and report results of the HIT program evaluations as outlined in the Department's Evaluation Plan and share it with the HIT Advisory Committee.

8. Work with the HIT Advisory committee to secure additional clinical sites for HIT degree and coding certificate students.

9. Work with the PC Community Training Institute and/or HCIES to offer a CCS Review workshop.

10. Identify HIT courses that can be used for campus assessment initiatives in the areas of critical thinking.

11. Recruit and hire qualified part-time personnel for the Lab Instructor position and enhance coding program and claims processing instructor positions.
