Goals For The Department of Dental Programs
Phoenix College Goals
1. Continue to create a learning environment that reflects the changing
needs of students and the community
2. Recruit and retain qualified faculty and staff who promote the
success of our diverse student population
3. Strengthen the role of Phoenix College as an intellectual and cultural
resource for the community by providing educational programs and services
that meet its needs
4. Manage enrollment and strengthen retention efforts to promote the
success of our diverse student population
5. Develop and maintain relationships with the community such as schools
and universities, businesses and public and private agencies
6. Support economic development of the community by providing appropriate
educational programs and services
7. Encourage and support the professional development of faculty and
staff
Department of Dental Programs Goals
1. Promote the success of all dental assisting and dental hygiene
students by providing support and resources for a vital learning atmosphere
within their academic, clinical, campus and community environments
2. Develop community relationships and promote oral health by providing
qualified professionals, educational programs and services to the
public
3. Support and promote the personal and professional development of
faculty and staff by promoting a culture of lifelong learning, teamwork,
collaboration, unity and mutual respect among all members of the Department
4. Optimize College financial resources through Departmental fiscal
responsibility and resourcefulness
Dental Hygiene Program Goals
1. Provide an educational program, which meets the standards of the
Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association
2. Educate students who demonstrate ethical and professional conduct
with patients/clients and successfully complete written and clinical
board examinations necessary for licensurenan.reif
3. Establish a curriculum, which meets the needs of the dental community,
serves the oral health needs of that culturally diverse community,
and incorporates current dental hygiene trends and technology
4. Promote professional and personal excellence among students, faculty
and staff and encourage lifelong learning
5. Provide respectful, innovative, creative and active classroom/lab
instruction through faculty who are current in advanced teaching methodologies
and use of media
Dental Assisting Program Goals
1. Through an educational program, accredited by the American Dental
Association's Commission on Dental Accreditation, provide each student
with marketable skills in clinical, radiographic, and laboratory procedures
2. Educate students who demonstrate ethical and professional conduct
3. Provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to successfully
complete the written and clinical board examination for state and
nation certification
4. Strengthen the instructional knowledge and skills of faculty and
staff to remain current in emerging dental technologies and teaching
methodologies
5. Continually improve the dental assisting curriculum to meet the
changing needs of the students and dental community
Center for Health Professions
1. Support and promote personal and professional development of the
dental community and Phoenix College dental faculty through lifelong
learning
2. Develop community relationships and promote oral health by presenting
CDE programs addressing the current concepts of practice
3. Optimize DHP financial resources to sustain educational quality
and support its educational programs
4. Provide expanded instructional modalities in continuing dental
education by utilizing new technology in creating courses utilized
by faculty, students and practicing professionals
