Phoenix College Department of Chemistry

MISSION STATEMENT

The Department of Chemistry offers courses and programs that provide an understanding of the molecular basis of permanence and change in the physical world. The faculty and staff feel a commitment to offer the most effective educational approaches, the most current and most useful chemical knowledge, and the most appropriate level of academic challenge to each class we teach. We serve a diverse group of students pursing academic, occupational, developmental and personal enrichment goals.

DEPARTMENTAL GOALS 1998

1.      Create and maintain safe and vital classroom, lab, and study experiences that encourage the students to aim for the highest levels of learning.

2.      Manage enrollment and strengthen retention efforts to promote the success of our academically and culturally diverse student population.

3.      Recruit and retain qualified faculty and staff whose collective expertise spans the discipline of chemistry and who reflect and embrace the diversity of the students we serve.

4.      Encourage and support the professional and personal development of faculty and staff.

5.      Develop productive relationships with schools, universities, businesses, government agencies and private organizations.

6.      Strengthen the role of the department as an intellectual and technical training resource for business, the professions, and local residents.

Phoenix College Mission Statement

  6. Support economic development of the community by providing appropriate educational programs and services.
