Business Department Mission and Goals for 2003-2004

The Business Department at Phoenix College is dedicated to providing quality educational courses, support services and programs for certificate, two-year degree and transfer students.

  • Provide students with quality instruction.
  • Provide students with quality advisement on courses, programs and degrees. Our hope is to have a designated Business Department Advisor, which is a Business Faculty Member, perhaps getting an extended contract to be available through appointments from advisement center and department secretary to advise Business Students.
  • Reduce the amount of overload courses taught by the department faculty to allow them to work on and complete many of these other goals as listed.
  • Increase the staff support in the business computer lab to meet the needs of students and bring it in line with the level of staffing for other computer labs on campus.
  • Continue to upgrade software and hardware in the Business Computer Lab, Classrooms and the Department Offices to keep up with technology.
  • Continue to expand the internship program for the Business Department.
  • Provide additional support and communication with adjunct faculty.
  • Continue to evaluate and select only the best adjunct faculty for teaching in the department.
  • Continue and monitor the use of computers in every business course.
  • Develop a system to track and follow up with business students who have earned certificates and degrees. {This will be used to help with recruiting future students}.
  • Develop a system to track and follow up with business scholarship students who have earned certificates and degrees. {This will be used to help with recruiting future gifts}.
  • Obtain enough faculty and staff positions in staffing so the department is not operating so understaffed and over stressed.
  • Maintain a quality web site for the Business Department.
  • Increase collaboration and partnerships with feeder high schools.
  • Continue to utilize industry advisory committees to provide input to the department regarding programs and curriculum.
  • Expand the Business course offerings to meet the demands/ needs of the community.
  • Revise brochures for the department degrees, certificates and the internship program to reflect changes in the curriculum and cosmetic changes as well.
  • Expand the Real Estate offerings to meet the demands/ needs of the community and expand the role of the director for the Real Estate Program to include Home Inspection.
  • Enhance the business club and plan some business trips with students.
  • Have committed directors for each of the major programs offered in the Business Department.
  • Increase the number of completers in the various Business Certificate and Degree Programs.
  • Find grants and sources of funds to be used to increase the diversity in Business Graduates.
  • Increase gifts to the Business Scholarship Fund by finding new sources for donations.
  • Track and increase retention in the business courses.
