The Applied Arts & Human Sciences Department is dedicated to providing quality educational courses and programs for students who are (1) preparing for employment, (2) upgrading skills, (3) enriching their personal and family lives, and (4) planning to transfer to a four-year university.

Department Goals

1. Provide courses and programs that teach skills sought by students and/or employers.
2. Write new courses and modify existing programs and courses to reflect the changing needs of our students, industry, and the community.
3. Increase enrollment and strengthen retention efforts to promote success of students in our classes and occupational programs.
4. Measure and access student outcomes in obtaining entry level employment, career advancement and/or continuing education.
5. Offer courses and programs that support students' learning, educational, and employment/career goals.
6. Hire highly qualified adjunct instructors with industry experience who embrace the diversity of the students enrolled in our courses and occupational programs.
7. Facilitate transfer of department courses through articulation efforts with four-year colleges and universities.
8. Update equipment and technology in department as budget allows to reflect current industry standards.
9. Offer on-site Child and Family Studies courses through the Custom Training and Education Department and work with the Custom Training and Education Department and the administration to better manage the increased workload and nontraditional timelines related to the PEP Grant.
10. Market occupational programs in the department.
