NCA Criterion 2 Committee

Meeting Minutes

November 1, 2004

Present: Brent, Leonard, Jill, Betsy, Wilbert, Dave, Ann, Tom, Ronnie

Ann began the meeting by giving everyone a handout with some questions to look at for 2B.

The committee then went into a discussion of 2B noting some of the resources, either academic or service that are currently available, whether they are opportunities for improvement or possible best practices. The following is a list of what the committee came up with:

Resource base / Academic Resources or Services

  1. Media services- Their staff has doubled (2.5 to 4.5 personal). This was an opportunity for improvement in the 1996 Self-study. Room utilization, standardized classroom, they are managing equipment in the room, security improvement, better use of human resources Inventory control with Extron IP (monitors what equipment is used in which rooms and how much they are being used), -highlighted in Ocotillo, EDUCAUSE article Smart classrooms – automatic screen, wireless (C102), Internet ready, smart panel Implementation of smart classrooms is based on prior usage data.

  2. More computer labs on campus

    Opportunity
    for improvement – dark labs, underutilization, room booking issues

Library resources

Math/Science center

Mobile units (i.e. chemistry)

  1. Tutoring changes in Learning Center

  2. Child Care Service – help people take classes, now Head Start certified, take classes, degree connection,

The committee also discussed the following resources: facilities, finances, and human:


Facilities Resources

1. Osborn – Culinary Cafe

Continuing Education

2. Preventative Maintenance Plan-

Vehicles – keeping more up-to-date

Work vehicle improvements

Total Vehicle replacement plan – within last 2 years, remove from BRC rep.

3. Owned Equipment grounds - replaced within its normal time cycle

Can replace equipment, upkeep

Improved safety with updated equipment

Plan for budget instead of just reacting  

4. ADA assessments – District did set-up committee and supplied resource ($), will match with disaster plan, ex. ADA van, elevator, classrooms (C102)

Human Resources

Definition: Personnel (Staff, OYO, OSO, Part-time, Full-time, Adjunct- flexibility through hiring),

1.      OGF to CFS (Retraining) – from paper to electronic system

2.      New SIS – planning documents, (Financial Aid)

3.      Wellness Program - Health Plan connected to Health Promotion

Joining fitness center

CPR / AED

Creative Pathway – i.e. groundskeeper to another career, i.e. curriculum resource
