MINUTES HLC CRITERION ONE MEETING

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 2005

Attendance: Judy Boschult, Liz Ligon, Linda Garcia, Brent Jameson, Sylvia Phillips, Elizabeth Saliba, Denny Sheehan.

The meeting came to order at 1:30 p.m.

Denny distributed the meeting’s agenda which included a discussion of 1A, a discussion of technology as an example of 1C, and a review of 1D and its examples of evidence.

Discussion followed about the college mission statement, how it came about, and what process was developed during Dr. Pepicello’s tenure as president, etc.

Discussion then proceeded to the strategic planning process at Phoenix College. Information already exists to indicate the process from 2002-2004.  Information from 1996-2002 is still needed.  Ann Roselle’s group may have some information for those years.

It was decided that the strategic planning process can be examined in three phases since the last NCA visit:

1) 1996-2002 (history of the strategic planning process)

2) 2002-2004   (what transpired in that period)

3) 2004 -------(looking at Dr. Solley’s 10 goals, how those tie into the District’s goals as articulated recently by Dr. Glasper.  How the current strategic planning committee is moving forward)        

(It was noted that PC Basics grew out of the service excellence piece, which came from strategic planning).

Next, the group discussed core component 1 D regarding the College Committee Blueprint document as a possible example of evidence.  Shared governance was suggested as a second example of evidence.  Judy and Denny will work on getting some information on these before the next meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 3:05 p.m.
