The HIP program is
intended to serve the needs of the community at large. It will provide
an opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career as a home inspector
to obtain the state mandated education and relevant field training as
a preliminary requirement in seeking state certification.
Effective
January 1, 2003, individuals working as home inspectors must be certified
by the state to act in that capacity.
State certification requires that a home inspector candidate
obtain both:
- a minimum of 80 classroom hours of post-secondary education in all
aspects of housing structure and housing systems
- combined with a minimum of 30 parallel home inspections conducted
under the direction and supervision of a state certified home inspector.
|
Our 15-credit hour program is designed to provide both the classroom
education and the necessary field training (parallel home inspections).
- Both the classroom education and field training components will be
taught, directed and supervised by state certified home inspectors.
- The classroom education component (HIP101-7 credit hours) will be
held during Fall 2004 commencing on Saturday, August 21, 2004.
- A review and testing course (HIP110-1 credit hour) will be given at
the end of the home inspection education course.
- All those wishing to continue in the home inspection program must
take the review and testing course and successfully pass the exam in
order to continue with the field-training course (HIP201).
- The parallel home inspections (field training) course will also be
held on Saturday beginning January 15, 2005. Please look for this course
offering (HIP201-7credit hours) in the college's regularly printed spring
schedule.
