1. Do I have to have a social
security number to attend Phoenix College?
No, students do not have to have a social security number to attend PC.
Students without a social security number will be issued an identification
number that is to be used during their career at Phoenix College.
2. Do I have to be a United States
citizen to attend Phoenix College?
No, the Maricopa College District cannot discriminate nor refuse admittance
to anyone wishing to attend any of the Maricopa community colleges based
on their residency status.
3. What's the difference between
being admitted and registered?
Being admitted means that a student has turned in their Student Information
Form or application to attend the college and has been accepted as a student.
Being registered means that the student has met with an academic advisor
or counselor and has selected classes to be taken.
4. What do I have to do next after
being admitted?
Students attending college for the first time must take the Asset placement
test before they can take an English, reading or math class. This test
is free of charge, offered on a walk-in basis, and students wanting to
take any one of these classes need to take the Asset placement test before
seeing an academic advisor or counselor for assistance in planning their
class schedule. Asset test scores will be provided to students immediately
upon completion of the test, and should be shared with the academic advisor
in order to enroll in the appropriate level of math, English or reading
classes.
Students that have attended another college or university must have their
course transcripts forwarded to the Admissions & Records office at
Phoenix College. In order to know whether already completed courses will
be accepted by Phoenix College, students should contact A & R at (602)
285-7513 and request that their transcripts be evaluated once received
at Phoenix College.
5. Should students needing to
learn English or improve their English language skills take the Asset?
No, students needing to take English as a Second Language classes to improve
their English should take the CELSA (ESL) exam. It is also offered at
the Testing Center on a walk-in basis. For more information on the Asset
or CELSA tests, call (602) 285-7844.
6. What do I need to do to see
an advisor or counselor?
Students can see an academic advisor on a walk-in basis Monday through
Thursday, between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. during the summer. The college
is closed on Fridays during the summer. For more information, call the
Advisement Center at (602) 285-7110. Counselors will see students on an
appointment basis. Appointments can be made by calling the Counseling
Center at (602) 285-7392.
7. How do I arrange for a tour
of the college?
Tours of the college are provided on an appointment basis. Please call
the Office of Recruitment & Retention at (602) 285-7772 to schedule
a tour.
8. Do you have dorms on campus?
No, Phoenix College does not provide residential housing for students.
However, the college Student Life and Leadership office does make available
to students an Apartment Guide which lists apartments located close to
the college. Stop by their office located in the lower level of the Hannelly
Center and pick up your free Apartment Guide.
