Students who have
not established a domicile in Arizona as adults
for at least one year (12 months) will be classified as out-of-state
residents for tuition purposes and will be subject to tuition
charges in
addition to registration fees. Residency is determined at
the time
the Student Information Form is submitted.
Students 18
years of age and over will be assigned residency status
based on proof of their own legal residence. Students under
18 years
of age at the beginning of classes may be assigned the residency
status of their parents or legal guardians. Legal guardianship
must
be by court order.
The only exceptions
to these rules are dependents (for income tax
purposes) of parents who reside in Arizona; a person who
is a
member of or a spouse/dependent of a member of the armed
forces
of the US stationed in Arizona pursuant to military orders;
an
employee or spouse of an employee transferred to this state
by
employer for employment purposes; a member of a recognized
Indian tribe and resident of a reservation whose land lies
in this
state and extends into another state.
Students who
have Arizona residency but have not established
residency in Maricopa County for a least fifty days will
be classified
as out-of-county students for tuition purposes. An open
attendance
policy is in effect for counties in Arizona where there
are organized
community college districts. Students from these counties
are not
subject to tuition charges. Students from other counties
in Arizona
are subject to out-of-county tuition as specified in the
schedule of
fees and tuition.
Out-of-County
/ Out-of-State students should note that residency is
not changed automatically. Proper documentation must be
filed,
reviewed and approved before residency status will be changed.
An applicant
beyond the age of compulsory attendance and has met the
established requirements for courses for which he/she plans
to enroll
based on the college assessments.
Applicants under
the age of 18 who have taken the appropriate college
assessment tests in order to demonstrate knowledge of the
necessary
academic level to benefit from the course. Signature of
parent or guardian
required.
Applicants who
are a participant in a special program approved by the
admitting college. The colleges reserve the right to enroll
students in
courses. The final decision for admission to any class for
students
admitted under "special" status will be determined
by the Associate Dean
of Student Services for Admissions and Records in consultation
with the
department chairperson.
NOTE:
Falsification
of any admission materials or official college records may
be
cause for denial or cancellation of admission.
