Commas and Letters

 

Rule: Use a comma after the salutation in informal letters and notes.

          Example:           Dear Paul,

Writing Tip: In formal business letters, use a colon.

         Example:            Dear Mr. Smith:

Rule: Use a comma after the closing in all letters and informal and formal notes.

          Example of informal closing :
                                                                   Love,

                                                                   Jules

          Example of formal closing :
                                                                   Sincerely,

                                                                   Jules
