YAVAPAI CAPTURES 2011
NJCAA DIVISION I NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP Yavapai
posted five consecutive victories to win the 2011 NJCAA Division
I National Championship. The Roughriders scored wins over
Pitt (3-1), McLennan (8-1), Talahassee (2-0), and Salt Lake
(6-1 and 7-0) on their way to the title. Yavapai's Estela
Pinon was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Pitcher
and MVP. joining Pinon on the All-Tournament Team from Yavapai
were Sierra Rodriguez, Vanessa House, and Brittany Keiser.
South Mountain Places
4th at NJCAA D2 Championships South
Mountain won four games and dropped two at the NJCAA Division
II National Championships to place fourth. South Mountain
opened with a 15-1 win over Sauk Valley before falling to
LSU Eunice 7-6 in game two. South Mountain then won 9-1 over
Mercyhurst, 11-6 over Heartland, and 7-2 over Pasco Hernando.
Owens CC defeated South Mountain 8-7 in nine innings in the
battle for third place. The Cougars' Felicia Wilson (1B) and
Sabeana Romero (3B) were named to teh All-Tournament Team.

Win Region I Championships Top-seed
Yavapai came out of the losers bracket to capture the NJCAA
Region I Division 1 Championship over Pima. In the Division
2 tourney, #2 seed South Mountain scored a 12-9 win over #1
seed Phoenix to take the crown. | Region

Host NJCAA Region I Championships Yavapai
is the NJCAA Region I top seed and Phoenix is D2's top-seed.
Both are set to host the NJCAA Region I Playoffs beginning

Top Region Softball Honors Central
Arizona's Jon Wente and Keenyn Walker have been selected as
the NJCAA Region I Coach and Player of the Year, respectively.
