Phoenix College Finishes
4th at NJCAA D2 National Championships The
Bears opened the tourney with a with a 66-61 victory over
Delaware Tech before falling 72-56 to eventual National Champion
Johnson County CC (KS) in the semifinal round and 65-61 to
Lincoln College (IL) in the third place contest.
Bears Advance to NJCAA
D2 National Tourney The
Phoenix College Bears defeated North Arkansas College 85-65
to capture the District 1 Championship and advance to the
NJCAA Division II National Championship Tournament. The tourney
will be held from March 18-21 in Danville, IL.
AZ Western, Phoenix
Capture Men's Region I Titles Top
seed Arizona Western defeated Cochise 74-50 to win the NJCAA
Region I Division I Championship, while #2 seed Phoenix upset
#1 seed Chandler-Gilbert 65-63 to capture the Region I Division
II crown. Phoenix will host North Arkansas College on Saturday,
March 7, at 7:30 p.m. for the Distrct Championship. Arizona
Western will face Region XVIII Champion Salt Lake CC for the
District title on Tuesday, March 10th, at 7:30 p.m. at Scottsdale

Top Seeds Advance in
Region I Playoffs #3 seed
Mesa defeated #4 Eastern Arizona 90-88 to advance to the semifinals
of the Division I Region tourney and will face #2 seed Cochise
on March 5th. In the Division II event, #2 seed Phoenix defeated
#4 Scottsdale 82-74 and will face top-seed Chandler-Gilbert
in the finals on Wednesday, March 4th. | Region

Western freshman Andre Almeida has been selected the ACCAC
Player and Freshman of the Year while his Coach, Kelly Green,

Andre Almeida averaged 20 points and 12 rebounds to earn ACCAC
Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors. The
ACCAC Division II award went to Scottsdale's Alex Jones, who
averaged 17.5 points and 12 rebounds in two games on the week.

Selected NJCAA Player of the Week Freshman
Steve Jurich led the Artichokes to a
pair of wins and earned the NJCAA Division II National Player
of the Week award for the week ending December 10, 2008. Jurich
tallied nine points and grabbed 4 rebounds in a win over Arizona
Western. He then posted 19 points and seven boards in a win

Mayo averaged 24 points in a pair of wins for Cochise to win
