Phoenix College (PC) provides information technologies to support the mission and purposes of the institution. These technologies are intended for the sole use of College students, faculty, staff, and other authorized users. Every student is expected to know and comply with all current published policies, rules, and regulations as printed in the college catalog, class schedule, and/or student handbook. Copies are available at each college. The Maricopa Community Colleges reserve the right to change, without notice, any materials, information, curriculum, requirements, and regulations.
Reporting technology problems
Hardware and software, network, or security problems should be reported to Computer Commons staff as soon as possible. Only authorized personnel may configure, alter, or repair information technologies systems/equipment. To insure adequate use of technologies, personal software and hardware on College computers is prohibited without authorization of Management. Software is subject to licensing and all license provisions (including copyright, use, duplication, simultaneous use, etc.) must be honored.
Student's Resonsibilities
Each account owner and workstation user is solely responsible for the usage incurred through his or her account or workstation. Individuals who intentionally misuse account privileges, degrade system performance, and/or interfere with the operation of information technologies may be subject to disciplinary actions.
Use of technology
Use of information technologies is a privilege, which may be revoked at any time by: Playing computer games and/or viewing pornography in the Computer Commons will not be tolerated. Students who are caught by the Computer Commons staff 3 times will have access removed immediately. Online chatting is only allowed for those who use it for courses. Failing to respect civil standards of communication and compliance with College policies by sending, printing, requesting, displaying, or storing fraudulent, harassing, sexual, racial, obscene or otherwise offensive messages, images, audio files, and/or materials, Breaking into another user's electronic mail account, sending forged electronic mail to intimidate or harass other users, sending chain messages or promotional mail, obtaining, possessing, using, or attempting to use passwords or other information, sharing your account and/or assisting others in unauthorized activities, attempting to circumvent or subvert any system security measures or decode passwords, introducing computer "viruses" or other disruptive/destructive programs into the College network or into external networks damaging or disrupting a computing or communications system, network, or program applying for a computing or communications account under false pretense, using facilities and/or technologies for commercial purposes.
Sexual Harassment
The policy of the Maricopa Community Colleges is to provide an educational environment free of unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal and/or physical conduct or communications constituting sexual harassment as defined and other wise prohibited by state, local and federal law. Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action up to and including suspension or expulsion for students.
Copyright Act
Students are expected to comply with the provisions of the Copyright Act of 1976 pertaining to photocopying of printed materials, copying of computer software and videotaping. To assist students in complying with the copyright law, appropriate notices shall be posted on or near all equipment capable of duplicating copyright materials.
Children on Campus
Children are not be allowed on campus unless participating in an authorized college program or under the supervision of an adult. Refer to pg C23 in the student handbook or the Maricopa Governance Online Policy Manual and item 2 under the Fannin Library policies regarding Children in the Library.
Agreement of policies
Phoenix College reserves the right to investigate suspected violations using all appropriate means. Furthermore, the College may terminate or restrict any person's access to its technologies, without prior notice, if such action is necessary to maintain availability, security, and integrity of operations for other users of the technologies. Those who cannot accept these standards of behavior will be denied use of Phoenix College information technologies. As a user of information technologies, you are subject to applicable Arizona State and Federal laws.
Failure to comply will result in the loss of access to the Computer Commons. The Computer Commons uses a 3 strike policy. Upon the granting of access, students are made aware of the policies and this is considered the first warning. Each violation of the policies is documented and on the third violation; the student is denied access.
Your signature on an account application or an on-line registration for a computing or communications account denotes that you understand these policies and accept the above stated terms of use.
