Mesa Advances
to NJCAA
Division II World Series
Mesa Community College (42-21) had their home
run bats working Sunday as the Thunderbirds pounded out a
18-10 victory over host Western Oklahoma State College (35-20)
to win the outhwest Regional in Altus, OK and qualify for
the NJCAA Division II national baseball tournament in Millington,
TN this coming weekend.
Defending national champion Grand Rapids Community
College (30-21) will be Mesas opening opponent on Saturday
at noon.
Edgar Ramirez (Yuma) led the MCC hit parade
with a home run, a double and two singles. Michael Levi had
two roundtrippers, Doug Low had one and two singles, and Bryan
Miller chipped in with one and a single. Steve Mays and Charlie
Calamia each had two hits.
Brian Broderick pitched five solid innings,
holding the Pioneers to three runs before Andre Fernandez
took over in relief.
