Assessment Update

Kristin Anderson,   Occupational Chair

All Program Directors of Occupational Programs are members of this committee with a steering committee consisting of: Kristin Anderson, Diane Stark, Kay Hilder, and Helen Houser.  There are more than 50 Occupational Programs at Phoenix College.

This year the Occupational Assessment Committee continued discussion and sharing of information with more than 30 Program Directors on methods available to assess outcome statement #1,”Occupational Programs at Phoenix College will prepare students for the workforce.”  Throughout the year, the Program Chair, Kristin Anderson, met with Occupational Directors individually and suggested methods of evaluation that are available for assessing this outcome.  Continued emphasis is on updating the program matrices yearly through the Office of Institutional Assessment.  Directors agreed that the summer would be the best time for them to do work on updating information from the previous year.  The group therefore agreed that deadline for updates would be the fall semester for the preceding academic year.

Also this year, the group agreed on a second outcome statement:  “Students in Occupational Programs at Phoenix College will exhibit professional behaviors.”  There was intense discussion from the group on this outcome at the meeting in October. Directors concurred that each program could utilize there own individual tool for measuring this objective, or they could utilize the professional behaviors rubric example on line. The group agreed that the variety of programs available at Phoenix College lends itself to programs using different behaviors applicable to their programs. Programs will use the format of the first outcome matrix to measure, utilize and make changes to their program.  As in outcome statement #1, matrices will be submitted to the Office of Institutional Assessment.

The Chair recognizes the commitment of all the Program Directors and the extra effort on their part to complete this important process.  Recommendations for improvement for the future include the following goal:  Involvement and commitment of 100% of the Program Directors  in updating program matrices for both outcome statements.
