Information Literacy Assessment Committee
Notes from September 9, 2004 Meeting
11:00am in L-230

Present: Ann Roselle (Chair), Linn Dowd, Michelle Dyer-Hurdon, Debby Kurtz-Weidinger, Linda Offenberg, and Elizabeth Saliba.

Welcome Debby, our newest member!

Committee Blueprint
The committee reviewed the draft of the committee blueprint. Changes were made to "Scope," "Expected Outcomes," and "Measures of Success". Ann will make the corrections and email the revised version to committee members. Members can sign the blueprint at the next meeting.

Strategies for increasing ENG 071/101 faculty participation in Project SAILS

  • Ann will draft a one page flyer, which will be reviewed by Linn, to be placed in the mailboxes of English faculty.
  • Linn will remind faculty about the assessment testing at the English Department Meeting on Sept. 15th and at the Developmental English Meeting on Sept. 13th.
  • One-on-one contacts will be made by:
    Elizabeth - Kimbuende, Naughton
    Michelle - Chancellor, Ozz, Simmon
Linn - Haberman and others, as appropriate.
    Ann - Skeen, Roe

Ann will email committee members the informational sheet about Project SAILS that was originally written for Nancy Matte, which might be useful during one-on-one contacts.

Ann will also request additional scantrons from Project SAILS to prepare for an increase in paper testing.

Assisting Faculty with Administering Test
Ann, Michelle, and Elizabeth volunteered to attend classes to assist faculty in administering the test, if requested by faculty. Debby would also like to participate, after observing a testing session.

Ann will send the "canned introduction" that was used in the first testing session to committee members for comments. The "canned introduction" might be of use to others helping with administering the test.

Web-based Version of Test
Michelle will continue to work with Darren and Symeon on creating the front-end webpage. Once this is in place, committee members can target WebCT instructors for participation in Project SAILS.

New IR Director
Ann will introduce Jan Binder, the new IR Director, to the work being done by the committee. Jan begins work on Sept. 21st. Ann will also check with Jan about sample size for Group 1.

Next Meeting
October 14, 2004 at 12:00-1:30pm. (Committee members will double-check their schedules that this time is available.)

Committee members will communicate via email with updates about outreach efforts to increase participation in Project SAILS.
