Results related to information literacy were discussed.
Further discussion will continue after the 2004 results are released on November 5th.
Specific results could be shared with the campus at large in the Committee's annual report.

Project SAILS Testing

162 tests have been completed so far. IR can determine which of these students actually represent a "typical" incoming student who has not yet been exposed to significant information literacy instruction at PC by tracking the # of credit hours or specific courses completed.

When selecting classes to test for Group 2, the Committee agreed to start the selection with 1) courses from the curriculum map that incorporate instruction by librarians and 2) courses where ENG102 is a prerequisite.

It was agreed that Group 2 would be tested as late as possible in the spring.

ACTION ITEMS:

  • Michelle and Elizabeth will determine which classes have ENG102 as a prerequisite. [NOTE: Spring schedule come out October 22.]
  • Ann will contact Kent State Univ. for clarification on the format of the raw data.
  • Ann will ask Kent State Univ. if we can analyze only portions of the test that are more applicable to community college students and the instruction that we focus on.
  • Ann will check on the last date available for testing.

Curriculum Map

Committee reviewed the list of courses that either introduce or reinforce information literacy skills.

ACTION ITEMS:

  • Debby will collect course information from the Dental Department, Rose Pfefferbaum, Liz Ligon, and Dale Doubleday.
  • Linda will collect course information from Kathy Green and Albert Celoza.
  • Ann will collect course information from Cynthia Viera and Virginia Foster

NEXT MEETING: November 18, 2004 (Committee members will check their schedules.)
