Information Literacy Assessment Committee
Notes from March 1, 2005 Meeting
10:00am in L-230


Present: Ann Roselle (Chair), Linn Dowd, Michelle Dyer-Hurdon, Debby Kurtz-Weidinger, and Linda Offenberg.

Project Sails Testing
Committee reviewed the Group 2 testing groups.

Action Items:

  • Ann will confirm testing times with Michaels.
  • Michelle will contact Kelchlin about URL and testing period (March 21-April 8)
  • Debby will contact Tadano, Parker, and Chavez about URL and testing period (March 21-April 8)
  • Linn will confirm testing times with Wheeler and McGrath and send information to Ann.

Comparison of CCSSE Survey Results for 2004 and 2003
Discussed improvements in student mean scores for information literacy questions that were considered "Areas of Improvement" in 2003. The committee decided not to include this data in their assessment annual report.

Ann reported that the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) is working with the ACRL Institute of Information Literacy to design information literacy questions for inclusion in the 2006 NSSE.

Action Item:
Ann will contact Bonnie Gratch-Lindauer, Chair of the ACRL Work Group, for more information. The Committee might want to consider recommending questions that focus on information literacy to CCSSE.

Faculty Practices Survey for Accreditation Self-Study Results
The Committee discussed the high percent (73%) of respondents indicating that they include information literacy assessment activities in their classes. The Committee wondered if we have a shared understanding/clear definition of what we mean by "assessment" and "information literacy".

Action Item:
Ann will recommend to Brent Jameson and Marian Gibney that the results from this survey be shared with all faculty, preferably on the LAN or the Institutional Assessment and Planning website.

Responding to Assessment-Survey
The Committee reviewed the form that will be sent to faculty in April 2005.

Action Item:
Ann will contact Brent Jameson about the committee's recommendations to improve the form by including examples and by clarifying whether or not the form is asking for new information from faculty not reported on this survey before.

Next Meeting: April 26th at 10:00am in Library Conference Room (with food!)
