ESL Grammar and Writing Assessment Committee

REPORT FOR THE P.C. ESL ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE

APRIL 25, 2000

     The ESL Assessment Committee has been meeting on a monthly basis for the past four semesters.  Attached is a list of the campus wide members involved.  The goal of the committee has been to develop the following:

·        a definition of the Phoenix College ESL student

·        a general outcome statement for the ESL classes

·        alignment with the P.C. Writing Component rubric (ENG 101) for ENG 107

·        a rubric that parallels the English writing component rubric for measuring each of four ESL writing levels including

·        content

·        organization

·        mechanics

·        stucture    

Essays have been collected from two ENG 107 classes so that the writing rubric can be tested.

In addition, a rubric for level I grammar (ENG009) will be completed by May 1st.
