ESL
Grammar and Writing Assessment Committee
Committee
Blueprint, Fall 2004
Committee Charge
The ESL Assessment Committee
charge is to evaluate students and instruction and subsequently to
make recommendations to support improved student learning and outcomes
success.
Scope of Work
The scope of our work is to support ESL students in grammar,
writing, and listening and speaking courses, and through analysis
of assessment measures, to take steps to improve teaching and learning.
The committee designs and implements original rubrics, outcomes statements,
evaluation materials, and testing procedures, and solicits input from
faculty, staff, and students. After testing data has been analyzed,
the committee makes recommendations for instructional and institutional
changes and improvement.
Expected Outcomes
The committee will produce
outcomes statements and results to indicate each course level of success.
In addition, recommendations will assist faculty and staff in course
improvement.
Measures of Success (Data)
Each semester, the ESL Assessment Committee produces reports
of test results (by semester and longitudinally) and portfolios are
maintained for intermediate-advanced level student compositions.
The committee publishes recommendations for improvement on an annual
basis and relays all information to faculty, campus, and District.
Resources
The ESL Assessment Committee
needs the support of the Student Academic Achievement Assessment Committee
(SAAS), support from the English Department and from the Dean of Instructions
office, and funds for printing.
