ESL Assessment Committee Report, September 2004

After publishing an eleven page summary and recommendations document in November of 2003, our committee spent the 03-04 academic year collecting and evaluating pre and post tests for all ESL level 2 and 3 grammar classes and pre and post writing samples from level 4 (fall and spring) and level 5 (ESL 067 pilot) in the spring.  The 020 and 030 results show positive grammar changes in all areas but indicate the most difficult area as “subject-verb agreement.” 

This 04-05 academic year the committee will spend all of its time closely examining the 040 portfolios of the pre and post test writings in order to make recommendations for instructional improvements.  Thus, we will not collect any ESL samples this year.
