ESL Grammar and Writing Assessment Committee

ESL Assessment Committee Meeting  for April 30, 2003

1. Report from April 2 meeting and recommendations for 020, 030 (see attached)

2. Report from Listening and Speaking sub committee

   *at the previous meeting Nancy reported that our faculty could become certified oral proficiency faculty interviewers by completing a weekend long course with ACTFL. Cost to bring the trainer is appx. $4200 for ten faculty.  This testing to become an OPI interviewer could help us move towards the national standards of speaking skills.

3.    Plan for  040 Evaluation Day  May 7^th .  Writing samples are being collected on May 5-6.

4.    Plan for FALL 2003: 

• Pretest and post test for grammar 020 and 030
• Pretest and post test (writing a paragraph) for 040
• Continue to “portfolio” students’ work
