Assessment Steering Team
Date: February 17, 2005
1:00 - 2:00 in HC-3

Present: Ann, Gerry, Kory, Edlyn, Kristen, Pam, Brent, Camilla, Jan,

DSAAAC update – forum had four consultant evaluators who informed on what they looked for. Need bottom line results from each committee; look at decisions that have been made as a result of the data. Remember to focus, don’t do too much. Assessment should be on syllabi. Consultant evaluators will talk to anyone; they will talk to students as well. Need to formulate plan to educate students about this as well.

Forum also discussed plagiarism and how to catch it and information on where to find information about it.

Issue with notifying students - concern is we have to notify student that their work will be assessed, but we also have to try not to scare them off. Need to up the awareness level and the comfort level so that students know that they are not being singled out.

Outcome statements on the schedule, some turned in their statements, for those that were not turned in Brent wrote them up and all are going to be in the new class schedule. This came out of a meeting with Dr. Solley. Brent will get a copy by email to everyone.

Looking at the statements, it might be best to have them all set up the same way. Another thing that went into the schedule is a statement about the self-study directed to students. It puts the students on notice about the self-study and what it is.

Other documents on the web – some committees have rubrics, outcome statements, and other things. It would be good to have a standard look for the webpage. Outcome statement needs to be there as well as rubrics, etc. Talk to committees and decide what to put on the web. Send all information to Adriana that you want posted on the web, enough to develop a history of each committee.  After each section on the main page, have links for results and recommendations. Looking at these things we need to find a way to close the loop for all of them, look at how to follow up on the recommendations. Need to show others that you know about a problem, what you do about it, then what attempt do you make to fix it, and after the attempts do you see different results. Committee members need to be updated on the webpage.

Research office can streamline the process for each committee, help them to pull data together, gather it and put everything together. Everyone should meet with Jan and see how she can assist each committee.

Responding to assessment survey- sent the survey out last year at the end of the semester. At the last meeting it was decided to do the survey again. Brent worked on this to make it more relevant to what is going on now. Need to add a due date to the survey. Recommendation by Ann to not add Information Literacy to the survey; however, it is best to add even if it doesn’t have much information so that people can see it is still going on. This survey will go out early April, have the due date be May 2. Survey will be distributed to residential and adjunct, with some distinction between both surveys. Deliver to chairs and have them then distribute the surveys.

Committee reports about what has happened this year are due in May. Need to add outcome statements at the beginning of the report and go from there. Include results if you have them, recommendations as well. Due May 2.

Outcome reports

Gerry- hasn’t met with the committee since going to district, they will meet tomorrow.

Pam – finished, they met already. They will meet in a couple of weeks to look at what was done with Damita. They are now looking at level four.

Camilla – They have a meeting set for Feb 28. They are also meeting with Damita.

Kory – meeting April 22 to evaluate. Except for last year they have had good outcomes. Committee might want to go to NFO to encourage them to attend.

Ann – things moving along, group 1 needed a few more students, but now they have them. By end of this month will have testing set. Testing will be Mar 20 – Apr 8.

Edlyn – there is district wide writing across curriculum at CGCC. Find out what is working on other campuses, and get district support.

April 21 is the last meeting for the semester.
