Assessment
Steering Team In Attendance: Brent Jameson, Kristin Anderson, Kory Merkel, Liz O'Brien, Mike Mitchell, Ann Roselle, Emily Lander, Jeremy Moreland, Marian Tadano 1. DSAAAC Update: A written report for the DSAAAC presentation to
the Governing Board is due to Brent by September 15. The report will
be presented at the November Governing Board meeting. Each committee
chair should complete a 150-200 word summary for their outcome area. 2. There is no longer a Team Building committee. Ann Roselle will chair the new Information Literacy Committee. 3. Update on committees: Occupational - Kristin. The committee is continuing to work on the second outcome statement concerning professional behaviors. The directors are updating the first outcome statement. Numeracy - Kory. The Numeracy committee just received the results from last year's assessments and will be reviewing it. Their consistency rate between novice and expert ratings was 99.3%. They have no new samples in yet, but Kory will be going door to door talking to faculty about getting samples. Writing - Mike. The Writing committee is evaluating last Spring's writing samples. They collected 55 portfolios. Each sample will be evaluated three times, then a report will be written and distributed to the campus in December or January. The draft report will be presented to the Steering Team in October or November. The committee is going to continue with the same methodology and collect samples in the Spring and evaluate in the Fall. Oral Presentation - Liz. The committee is working out a time to meet and will be scoring samples collected at the end of the Spring semester. Liz plans to email the campus about taping oral presentations and will distribute documents the committee has prepared. The committee was considering implementing a secondary measure. Marian commented that not all committees need secondary measures and perhaps we should concentrate on secondary measures for reading, writing, and math. Information Literacy - Ann. The Information Literacy committee is currently being formed. Ann has drafted a two-year plan outlining standards and tools for the committee. 4. NCA Update. Marian asked the committee chairs to think about where their outcome falls within the Levels of Implementation specified by NCA. They will be looking at each committee within that context. 5. Other: Brent - The campus will also need the addition of program assessment, possibly in the English and Math departments. We would like to use something that is already happening and will need multiple measures. Emily - The Assessment Committee section of the Institutional Assessment and Planning website is up. Currently contains descriptions on committees (taken from the "Current Practices" book from last year's Assessment Forum), meeting minutes, and 2002-2003 committee members. Please email or talk to Emily regarding any changes to committee members or other items you'd like included on the site. Jeremy - The college is also looking at options for a implementing a campus-wide secondary measure. Next Meeting: October 30th at 2:00. Location TBA.
