1. DSAAAC Update
Written reports from each campus will be going to Governing Board
to update the Board on campus assessment. Reports are due to the Board
on September 30, 2003. Each campus is responsible for a 5 page, 12
pt. Times New Roman report.
Brent will write the Executive Summary for PC's report. Each outcome
chair should write a brief (150-200 words) summary of their committee's
work to be included in the report. Please submit to Brent by September
25 so he has time to compile them.
DSAAAC will be giving a brief presentation at the November Governing
Board Meeting.
Next district-wide Assessment forum will be January 30, 2004. This
will be the only district-wide forum next year.
2. Assessment Day final preparations.
Schedule is as follows:
12:30 Lunch
1:00 - 2:00 General Presentations. Each chair will present for 3-5
minutes.
2:00 - 2:30 Roundtable Discussions
3. Update on committees:
Occupational - Kristin
The Occupational Committee has added Outcome Statement #2: "Students
in Occupational Programs at Phoenix College will Exhibit Professional
Behaviors."
Numeracy - Kory
The Numeracy Committee and other volunteers will be assessing 6 sets
of samples on April 25 from 12:00 - 2:00.
Writing - Mike
The Writing Committee is discussing a second measure of writing assessment.
They would like to create portfolios that track student progress through
their time at PC. They will continue to collect and score writing
samples with the current method.
Oral Presentation - Liz
The Oral Presentation Committee continues to meet every other week
to rate samples. They are expecting to get more samples near the end
of the semester.
Team Building - Kathy
Committee is trying to recruit faculty to participate. They have offered
to help educate faculty on how to implement rubric.
ESL - Pam
The ESL Committee continues to test grammar this semester and is looking
into developing a speaking and listening rubric.
Developmental Education - Camilla
Committee has reviewed last Fall's data results and has come up with
ideas on how they would like Spring's results analyzed. The post-test
survey will be administered the week of April 21. Plan on using the
same instrument next Fall and Spring semesters with a few minor changes.
Critical Thinking - Phil
Committee is looking into piloting the "Test of Everyday Reasoning"
in the Fall. Test requires 45 minutes to take and is looking for faculty
volunteers (several meeting attendees volunteered their classes).
They also have a series of rubrics for different critical writing
tasks that they will be piloting next fall. Ideally the courses that
participate in the "Test of Everyday Reasoning" will also
use the rubric.
Next meeting in August.
