Steering Team Minutes
Date: September 11, 2000

Attendance: Brent Jameson, Chairperson; Judy Boschult, Kristen Anderson, Betsy Frank, Georgia Gudykunst, Maria Encisco, Kory Merkel, Marian Tadano.

Schedule of General Assessment Meetings.
Brent reminded us that meetings will be held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays, at 2 PM, for Fall 2000 semester as follows: Sept. 11th, 25; Oct. 9th, 23rd; Nov. 13th, 27th; Dec. 11th. The General Assessment Committee meets immediately after the Steering Team.

Brent will invite the Oral Communications and Team Building Chairs to join the General Assessment Committee.

Assessment Newsletter.
Send items by Oct. 9th to Georgia who will publish it by Oct. 15th. We need Marian to write a short piece too. Assignments again are: faculty report on assessment conference experiences and insights, Maria; Writing Committee, Betsy; Numeracy Committee experience, Judy; Liaison experience this past year, Maria; Occupational Committee, Kristen; ESL pilot, Pam Rogers; NCA report/plan, Brent.

Assessment Plan and Assessment Report.
Betsy shared a rough draft of the report and invited further feedback. The suggestion was to move Section 1 and 2 to the Plan, move the PC/MCCD mission/vision, etc. to the Appendix. The focus of the report should be on progress since our last report. In contrast, the focus of the plan should be what we are about, our goals, philosophy and what is important to PC, etc. Kristen provided a section on Occupational assessment to be included. (Comments from the previous meeting are included here again, so that all comments are in one place. Marian pointed out that we split out the preliminary draft into a separate progress report and a plan. Georgia suggested that we develop a 5 year plan that takes us all the way up to our self-study and accreditation visit, 2005, and provided that matrix draft at the Aug. 21st Steering Team.)

Writing Committee.
The Committee will meet to share the results of the pilot, debrief the pilot process, plan for further implementation, discuss type of samples, etc. tomorrow (Sept. 12th).

Numeracy Committee.
Kory Merkel has invited Dave Gorman to help debrief on the numeracy pilot in September. He is willing to drive down to participate, but will not have the time to prepare a formal presentation. The plan is to schedule a debriefing for a Friday afternoon this month, and have Dave attend if he can. Kristen, Judy & others who participated in the Numeracy pilot have offered to assist at that debriefing.

Five Year Timeline (Draft).
Georgia provided a revised 5 year timeline, to include the Occupational outcome for Team review.

Next Meeting.
Sept. 18th at 1 PM.

Respectfully submitted,
Georgia Gudykunst
