Steering Team Minutes
Date: January 18, 2001
Attendance: Brent Jameson, Chairperson; Judy Boschult, Kristin Anderson,
Maria Enciso, Betsy Frank, Georgia Gudykunst, Kory Merkel, Pam Rogers,
Liz O'Brien, Dorothy Sisneros.
Assessment Day:
This semester assessment day will be Friday, April 13th. We will start
about 12:15 with lunch, followed by a general session beginning at
1 PM. The outcome groups can do their work in the classrooms, so that
they can have refreshments, visit or debrief after their sessions
in the general session room. Also they can work uninterrupted in their
separate classrooms.
Staff Development:
Judy Boschult and the Outcome Cmte chairs determined the following
staff development sessions:
January 30th (Tues.), 1:30 PM - Writing workshop, Betsy Frank
February 2nd (Fri.), 12:30 PM - Numeracy workshop, Kory Merkel
March 27th (Tues.), 1:30 PM - Oral Comm. workshop, Liz O'Brien
April 3rd (Tues.), 1:30 PM - Team Building. Workshop, Dorothy Sisneros
Each Outcome committee chair will go over the rubrics or tools for
assessing their outcome area, and work with faculty on what the rubric
involves, and how these might be used in their coursework.
Board Presentation:
We need volunteers to provide a poster-type session at the Feb. 13th
Governing Board meeting, which begins at 6:30 PM. Judy Boschult, Kory
Merkel, Betsy Frank and Georgia Gudykunst will attend. Betsy will
present and discuss the Writing rubric. Georgia Gudykunst will prepare
the materials for the 3 flip charts -- the outcome statements and
rubrics as available for the outcome committees (Numeracy, Writing,
Occupational, ESL, Oral Communications and Team-Building), cross-disciplinary
faculty participation in assessment committees, and cross-disciplinary
source of numeracy and writing samples. Also, we will bring the plan,
report, newsletter, etc. for display on the table.
Assessment Statement Proposed for Class Schedule:
Several members noted whether an assessment statement might agitate
several faculty chairs perceived as not being supportive of assessment.
The statement would be for informational integrity with students.
Brent will follow up with Marian Tadano.
General Assessment Committee Meeting (January 29th, 2:30 PM)
We will invite the liaisons. Maria Enciso was asked to share the assessment
update sheet she provides, as liaison to her department, as an example
of a communication, and to provide some liaison training. The Steering
Team also suggested that faculty chairs be copied on the invitation
to the liaisons for the meeting, to encourage communication. The Team
wants to help them feel more a part of the assess-ment efforts and
understand their role.
Future meetings of the General Assessment Committee: 2nd & 4th
Mondays, 2:30 PM.
Next Steering Team Meeting:
January 25th, 12 PM, Admin. Conference Room
Respectfully submitted,
Georgia Gudykunst
