The Medical Assistant Program provides education and training in 36 weeks, for employment in physicians’ offices, community health centers and select outpatient facilities. Phoenix College offers two programs in Medical Assisting - an associate degree and a certificate program. The Medical Assisting Program includes appointment scheduling, managing medical records, insurance billing, and coding, communications, patient education, assisting doctors with clinical procedures such as minor surgeries, administering medications, performing electrocardiograms, and drawing blood. Upon successful program completion, the student will be eligible to take the American Medical Technologists National medical assisting exam. A program called Medical Front Office Support is also available. Why choose Medical Assisting? The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reports medical assisting as one of the fastest growing occupations in the country. 50% more medical assistants will be needed by 2010. Lot of jobs available!
Cost: Approximately $3,000 Program schedule: Attend classes all day Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for 36 weeks. Program includes two externships.
