President's Roundtable-Phase V Keynote Speaker Michael L. Bassoff, President TGen Foundation Michael L. Bassoff, a nationally recognized author and leader in securing private funding for medical research was named Vice President for Development of the Translational Genomics Research Institute on August 15, 2002 and on February 8, 2004 was named President of the TGen Foundation. His charge with this new organization is to create a nationally based foundation to support the work of the International Genomics Consortium and the Translational Genomics Research Institute. He had previously served as President of the Foundation of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). In this position he was responsible for raising and managing private funds given in support of New Jersey's entire system of medical and dental schools and their programs. Mr. Bassoff came to the Foundation from the University of Arizona Foundation where he had served the Arizona Health Services Center for more than 16 years. Over the course of sixteen years at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center, Mr. Bassoff created a comprehensive development program and an extraordinary relationship between the people of Arizona and the University Of Arizona Health Sciences Center. Mr. Bassoff also served as founding Director of Development for the University of Arizona Cancer Center from 1983 to 1990 and created a number of innovative programs aimed at developing a broad range of constituencies and linking them more closely to the University's scientists and physicians.
