FAQ

Will the scheduling component of the New Student System (NSS) be able to accomodate individual schedule notes more easily than the current system? For example, it would be useful to be able to see the information listed in the printed schedule.
(e.g., BIO102 is limited to students majoring in Elementary Education, or EDU courses that require a certain number of hours of outside class internship/observation hours.)

The notes area for class scheduling is a wonderful improvement in the NSS. You will have the ability to create standard college specific class notes that are built into the system, or you can build free form notes for the unusual situations. These notes are displayed when students are searching the class schedule in self service.

The notes are also displayed in the printed schedule, although we haven't determined if we will use the Peoplesoft class schedule report, create our own or use an interface.

The Counseling Department would like work with students to develop an Individualized Educational Plan. Will the NSS be able to "flag" students who have taken 20+ hours who are seeking a degree or certificate? Also would the Educational Plan be available to view online for other Counselors, Advisors etc. to view?

People Soft does not have an educational planning component, so "as delivered" there is no way to enter and view an educational plan for a student. If this is considered a high priority, there are other schools who have created modules for educational planning purposes.

It would be fairly easy to write a report to get the names of students who meet their criteria, as long as those criteria are things we store in the database (units completed, etc.)

Will the NSS have the capability of warning the operator when they are trying to register someone in a previous term?

There are specific dates that students can register for per term. If the staff person accidentally pulled up a prior semester class they would get a warning that the enrollment dates for that term had passed. For student self service, the enrollment activity would be turned off and not available.

Does NSS have an alumni development component and will it be functional when NSS goes live?

District did not purchase the Alumni component of Student Administration.

Will NSS have the ability to link a departments web based course guides for course selection to the online registration system? Will NSS have the ability to link a department developed assessment to online registration system?

These are all customizations to the system that would have to be considered as part of the overall customization efforts.

One could front-end the online registration system with an entry point at the colleges where mentoring/advising could take place prior to accessing Peoplesoft.

Will students be able to search for available classes by giving parameters like, give me a list of humanities classes that are open and meet on MWF between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.?

There are many ways to search for classes in the NSS. Here is a copy of the advanced search page. It displays the many search features that will be available.

Will the NSS have the capability of providing a roster of students whereby the college can tell which students have paid and which have not paid for a specific class?

The NSS does not have this functionality. Since it is not current SIS functionality, it probably wouldn't be supported for initial deployment. You may want to list it as a CIT report request.
