Students Work Toward Goal of 1000 Registered Voters During a Two-Week Voter Registration Drive

(PHOENIX, Arizona, Sept. 21, 2004) - With the election just weeks away, Phoenix College students and club members are encouraging their fellow students to get out and vote.

Between now and October 4, the Student Life and Leadership Office is sponsoring a voter registration drive with New Voters Project, a national nonpartisan group. The New Voters Project targets 18-24 year-olds; however, Phoenix College hopes to register a total of 1000 new voters (regardless of age) during the drive.

According to a flyer released by Student Life and Leadership, "25 percent of all 18-to-24 year-olds in Arizona voted in 2000, compared to 70 percent of 60-to-75 year olds."

In an effort to close this gap, volunteers will be in Sophomore Square registering voters from Sept. 21-23. After this week, students can pick up forms in the following locations:

--Student Life and Leadership Office (Hannelly Center)
--Fitness Center
--Library
--Learning Center
--Admissions & Records

For more information, contact the Student Life and Leadership Office at (602) 285-7231. For more information on the New Voters Project, visit www.newvotersproject.org/.
