The Great Outdoors: Phoenix College Offers Hiking Class


WHAT:

Have you ever wanted to get out into the mountains in the greater Phoenix area but keep coming up with excuses not to do so? Now is your chance to experience scenic Arizona from your own backyard with some great day hikes.

Phoenix College is offering a hiking class that includes several hikes in the Phoenix Mountain Preserve as well as some of the surrounding natural areas. Learn about safe hiking practices and principals, proper hiking equipment and nutrition as well as meet new people with similar interests. This course is designed for beginning to intermediate hikers. The class will begin with easy hikes and progress to moderate and more difficult hikes. An optional full-moon hike observing a lunar eclipse is planned towards the end of the semester.

12 week class


WHERE:

Phoenix College Campus
(11th Avenue and Thomas)
The first class meets at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 18 in the Health Enhancement Department Conference Room at Phoenix College. Thereafter, the class meets at designated hiking areas at 7 a.m.

WHO:

Phoenix College hiking guide, Scott Covey has been a park ranger with the City of Phoenix for 15 years. He has a BS in Parks and Recreation Administration.
