Phoenix College Students, It's Time to Put on Your Dancing Shoes
The Phoenix College Hip-Hop Squad can be seen at numerous times throughout the year promoting the performing arts, higher education, school pride, community and multicultural unity. Their unique and diverse style can be seen both on and off the Phoenix College campus. School performances have included athletic events, freshman orientation, Homecoming Spirit Week, Spring Fling, Martin Luther King Tribute and ultimately the end of the semester dance recital. In addition, the group performs at community fundraisers in Phoenix, charity benefits and awareness events including the AIDS Walk, Celebration of Dance, Central Arizona Basketball Organization and the Martin Luther King March. Students registered for the Hip-Hop Squad receive credit. Auditions are held the first week of the Fall and Spring semesters. Practice is open to all Phoenix College students on the first and third Monday in the South gym from 7:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Last March, members competed in the Desert Challenge Dance Competition in Las Vegas and walked away with first place in the Salsa division. They competed against 14 major universities including University of Nevada-Las Vegas, University of Arizona and University of Southern California. This Spring, they hope to attend two out-of-state competitions in San Diego and Las Vegas. The Latin Dance Club is free for all Phoenix College students that hold a minimum of 3-credit hours.
