Phoenix College Applauds New Student Leaders
Established in Fall 2002, the Phoenix College Ambassadors Program gives selected individuals an opportunity to shine as leaders by recruiting and orienting potential, new and current students to Phoenix College. "This year's group is truly incredible," said Diana Martinez, Phoenix College Ambassadors advisor. "I am amazed at how active they are on campus and in the community. Their enthusiasm is contagious!" Phoenix College is pleased to announce the 2004-2005 ambassadors.
In her second year at Phoenix College, Sat Nam Kaur is extremely active. Currently, she is president of Phoenix College Amnesty International, intern for the Kerry/Edwards campaign, coordinator for Phoenix College Young Democrats, member of Phi Theta Kappa, volunteer for New Voters Project and a yoga instructor. When asked to reveal what she wants to do when she grows up, her career list ranges from a yoga teacher to president.
Juan "Johnny" Mendez hopes to influence international policy as he aspires to be an elected official. He describes himself as someone who is addicted to school and club involvement. In his second year at Phoenix College, he is a student of the Classical Studies program and holds officer positions in Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership (SAIL), Amnesty International, Young Democrats and Meriadoc Society. He is also active in the New Voters Project.
Micaela Rios loves meeting new people and getting involved on campus. Being a PC ambassador allows her to interact and connect with new students. She aspires to be a math teacher and strives to be a great role model for her students, family and community. She is a member of Asociacion Latina Estudiantil (ALE) and works in the college Alumni and Development Office.
Esperanza Evelynn Quiroz Sandoval describes her role as a PC Ambassador as challenging and inspirational. She believes that this leadership position takes an individual out of his or her comfort zone and into a world where students can be positively affected by others. She is a member of the Future Teachers Club and hopes to be a elementary education teacher.
In her second year at Phoenix College, Angela Keeter envisions this leadership opportunity as one that will allow her to be a true representative of Phoenix College. When she is not giving campus tours or visiting high schools, she is performing around the state. Angela is violin player and folklórico dancer. She also plays the violin at a restaurant in Scottsdale. Her career goal focuses on helping people in need. Currently, she is considering speech pathology.
Lisa Greyson sets her goals extremely high, as she aspires to be an expert. She is certainly on her way there as a student in the Honors Program. She was originally attracted to the Phoenix College Ambassadors Program because she wanted to learn more about the college and help new students. She believes that it is extremely important to have a group like this devoted to assisting new students and dedicated to educating people about Phoenix College. Lisa is an events coordinator for Student Activities, Involvement and Leadership (SAIL), a book coordinator for Meridoc, a member of Young Democrats and works in Student Life and Leadership. She is also involved in the New Voters Project.
A criminal justice major, Julio Perez, sees his duty as a Phoenix College Ambassador as extremely important. In this role, he believes he is helping the college, as well as assisting students during an important time in their life. Currently, Julio is participating in the Desert Rangers Club at ASU to learn about the military. He hopes to be either a police officer or army officer.
