President Appoints Dr. Trino Sandoval to Interim Associate Dean of Continuing Education and Community Service

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Sept. 24, 2004) - Dr. Trino Sandoval, former Foreign Languages Department chair, was recently appointed to serve as the interim associate dean of Community Education and Community Service. Sandoval has been a dedicated member of the Phoenix College community for eight years, serving in various capacities from Spanish language and humanities instructor to department chair. Additionally, he served as executive assistant to the President in 2001 and as the faculty advisor for M.E.Ch.A. from 1996 to 2002.

While serving in these capacities for more than eight years, Sandoval has exemplified a true passion and sincere dedication to Phoenix College and education. Not only is he a compassionate leader within the Phoenix College community, but he is also leader within the local community.

As the interim associate dean of Continuing Education and Community Service, Sandoval will be responsible for many of the college's off campus credit cohorts and courses, continuing education and service learning initiatives, as well as noncredit seminars. Additionally, he will take a lead role in preparing for the President's Roundtable and Phoenix Think Tank. Sandoval will also oversee Command Spanish, Short Subjects, Parent Education for Prevention Grant, CERT Program and the First Responders High School.

As the founder and executive producer of Teatro Bravo, a local Latino theater company, Sandoval has been extremely active within the community and has presented on Latino issues at several conferences. For example, he has presented in Mexico City and in Tempe, Arizona on topics ranging from "Hispanics Under Fire: The Civil Rights Violations of Hispanics in the Name of Urban Redevelopment" to "Aborto, locura y muerte en 'El ultimo verano' de Amparo Dávila."

As with his presentations, Sandoval is known for several published articles and encyclopedia entries on Mexican cinema, Latino culture and Latino gender studies.

Sandoval received a Ph.D. and M.A. from Arizona State University and a B.A. from California State University at Chico.
