Phoenix College To Celebrate JamBEARee Week Starting Sept. 30

 


(PHOENIX, Ariz., Sept. 19, 2003) - Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 30 the Phoenix College community is invited to celebrate JamBEARee Week, which will consist of five eventful days ranging from a pep rally in Sophomore Square to the annual Phoenix College History Makers Hall of Fame dinner in the Culinary Cafe. JamBEARee Week will conclude with the Homecoming football game against Scottsdale Community College.

According to Kelly Loucy, Student Life and Leadership Director, JamBEARee Week allows the college to serve all populations: students, staff, retirees and alumni.

"Phoenix College means something to all of us," she said. "This is why we decided to include events that catered to everyone involved in the Phoenix College community."

JamBEARee Week activities include:


Tuesday, Sept. 30
Bear Claws & Coffee

8 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – Willo Room

Bear Claws & Coffee is a morning social for new Phoenix College employees and retirees.


Wednesday, Oct. 1
Pep Rally

11 a.m. – 2 p.m. – Sophomore Square

Phoenix College students will not want to miss this event. The Phoenix College community can visit club booths, listen to music, vote for their favorite Homecoming king and queen candidates and indulge in free popcorn. In addition, for all those dare devils on campus – "Activities by Funrunners" will have a number of exciting games.

The include:

SpyroGyro Orbitron Ride, which creates a thrilling human gyroscope experience as single participants are orbited by 3 separate neon rings while they spin in every direction.

Gladiator Joust is a game where two opponents at a time perch atop two podiums while each try to knock their opponent onto an inflated mat with padded poles.

A full sized Air Hockey table will also be available.


Thursday, Oct. 2
All Employee Ice Cream Social and Department Decorating Contest

Noon – 2 p.m. – Fannin Library Front Lawn

Who has the most school spirit? Find out as the results of the Department Decorating Contest are announced. The winning department will showcase the most PC Blue and Gold Homecoming Spirit. They will receive a trophy and pizza party for their success.

Additional prizes will be awarded for:
-- Best Use of a Theme
-- Best Collaboration
-- Best Use of People
-- Best Use of Blue & Gold


Friday, Oct. 3
5th Annual Phoenix College History Makers Hall of Fame event

Begins at 6 p.m. – Culinary Café

The Phoenix College Alumni Association Board of Directors will present the Phoenix College History Makers 5th Annual Alumni Hall of Fame Induction dinner and silent auction. During the event, eight prominent locals will be honored and recognized for their contributions to the college and community. These well known local standouts will be applauded for their talented work and inducted into the Phoenix College Alumni Association Hall of Fame.


Saturday, Oct. 4
140-day Reunion for the Class of 2003

5 p.m. – 6:45 p.m.- Cafeteria

It’s time for all of the May 2003 graduates to revisit the Home of the Bears. This event is especially for the Class of May 2003, for it will be exactly 140 days since graduation. Come back and get reacquainted with friends and the Phoenix College family, while enjoying an ice cream social. Faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to attend and mingle with these recent graduates.


Homecoming Game
7 p.m. - Hoy Field

The Phoenix College Bears will take on the Scottsdale Community College Artichokes. Also, the Phoenix College Homecoming king and queen will be announced during half time.
