Diversity Scholarship Targets Active Members of P.A.L.S.
The annual scholarship, which is known as the Eileen Post-Chris Kobus Diversity Scholarship, was established by Phoenix College alumna, Eileen Post and her partner, Chris Kobus. As a Betty Elsner scholarship recipient herself, Eileen saw first hand the value of receiving scholarships; therefore, she was determined to do the same. Eileen actually received an AA from Phoenix College in 1987 and then returned in the 90s to pursue a degree in legal assisting. She was an active student while on campus as a member of Phi Theta Kappa and was also selected as a member of WHOs WHO AMONG STUDENTS® IN AMERICAN JUNIOR COLLEGES. Eileen also made the Deans List every semester. She went on to study at Arizona State University (ASU) and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and graduated cum laude. "When I was a student at Phoenix College, the P.A.L.S. Club had yet to be established," she said. "Gay and lesbian students really didnt have anywhere to go for support until the club was established. Now, I hope that this scholarship will extend that support." Those who wish to apply for the scholarship also can be a part time or full time student, but must be a full time Arizona resident and must have a 2.5 or higher G.P.A. Students must also demonstrate that he or she has done something to promote diversity on campus or within the community. For more information about the scholarship or for an application, please call 602-285-7666. ### |
