Former New York City Mayor to Speak at Phoenix College - John Paul Theatre

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Sept. 9, 2003) – The Phoenix College Liberal Arts Department and Model United Nations will join Bryan Cave LLP in sponsoring "Koch On Everything," with the former New York City Mayor himself, Ed Koch on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. The free lecture is open to the general public and will be held in the John Paul Theatre.

Koch, a member of Bryan Cave’s Regulatory Affairs, Public Policy and Legislation Client Service Group, has a long list of civic involvement.

Following his tenure as the mayor of the city of New York for three terms from 1978-1989, Koch returned to law practice. His career in government began in 1966 when he was elected to the New York City Council. In 1968, he was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives, where he served on the House Committee on Banking and the Appropriations Committee. He was also secretary of the New York Congressional Delegation.

In addition to his active participation in government affairs, Koch has also written both fiction and autobiographical books. His autobiographical works include: Mayor, 1984; Politics, 1985; His Eminence and Hizzoner, 1989; All the Best: Letters from a Feisty Mayor, 1990; Citizen Koch, 1992; Ed Koch on Everything, 1994; Giuliani: Nasty Man, 1999; and I’m Not Done Yet: Remaining Relevant, 2000. Also, his fictional texts Murder at City Hall, 1995; Murder at Broadway, 1996; Murder on 34th Street, 1997; and The Senator Must Die, 1998 have been hot commodities.

Koch is also the host of a Saturday radio program on Bloomberg AM 1130 (WBBR) and is a commentator on that same station. He is a weekly guest on NY1 television and each week, he writes a political column and movie review. He lectures around the country and overseas, and has appeared daily on the television series "The People’s Court" from 1997 to 1999 as the judge.

"Ed Koch is one of the most notable political figures of our time," said Dr. Albert Celoza, Phoenix College Liberal Arts Department Chair and Model United Nations advisor. "He was not only the mayor of American’s premier city, he’s also a charismatic diplomat and opinion leader. He will share with us his experience with his wit and intelligence."
