Phoenix College is our Valley’s original community college celebrating more than 83 years of commitment to the community. It is one of the ten Maricopa Community Colleges and has upheld excellence as its mission since 1920. This focus is reflected in the Phoenix College vision statement:

"Phoenix College will be an exemplary educational institution, caring, innovative and creative. It will be responsive to its diverse community, offering supportive environments for student success, promoting life-long learning."

In the Spring of 2002, following the spirit of the vision statement, Phoenix College in conjunction with Maricopa County Community Colleges, undertook the effort of developing a strategic plan for the college and updating the existing master plan for the campus. A strategic planning council was formed and with input from the campus community developed "Seven Strategic Planning Initiatives" for the future of Phoenix College:

--Commitment to Employee Excellence
--Leveraging Technology
--Facilities Improvement
--Partnering with Business and Community
--Promoting Student Success
--Optimizing Financial Resources
--Facilitating Vital Change

To promote these "Seven Strategic Initiatives," a master planning process was undertaken with the assistance of the Orcutt/Winslow Partnership. This planning process had broad participation from the Phoenix College community and from this input, a Facilities Advisory Committee helped develop a set of priorities for implementing the "Seven Strategic Initiatives" within the master plan:

--Create a central location for all student services
--Remodel or upgrade existing classrooms
--Provide adequate, accessible parking
--Construct new classroom buildings
--Construct newer, larger bookstore

The Facilities Advisory Committee then identified the need for the following facility improvements to the campus:

--Relocate maintenance facilities - 7,500 sq. ft.
--Upgrade and expand student services - 76,000 sq. ft.
--Construct new classroom spaces - 25,000 sq. ft.
--Remodel classroom spaces - 33,000 sq. ft.
--Construct a parking structure
--Upgrade information technology systems
