Alumni Storytellers at Phoenix College

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 30, 2003)—Fatimah Halim, Elda Saucedo and Tracy Werth all have three things in common: They are all prominent writers in the Valley, they are all Phoenix College alumni and they will all be participating in Phoenix College’s second annual Alumni Storytellers Event on Friday, Nov. 21. This free event gives students, members of the community and professional writers a chance to network with each other and share their ideas and experiences.

The day will begin at 1:30 p.m. in the Dome Room at Phoenix College—Osborn Campus with a panel discussion and question and answer session. Following the discussion, participants will select a "break out session" with one of the speakers. During this time, participants will have the opportunity to take part in one-on-one discussions and have their writing critiqued by one of the speakers. Later in the evening two of the speakers, Fatimah Halim and Elda Saucedo, will read from their work and be available for book signing during the evening showcase.

You may recognize the name Fatimah Halim from her book, Hair Stories, where she candidly explores the relationship African-American women have with their hair. Elda Saucedo recently wrote and published a collection of her poems in her new book, Life, Love and Spirituality— Vida, Amor, Espiritalidad. The third speaker, Tracy Werth, who has written travel articles for The East Valley Tribune, is currently revising her novel, Seeking Comfort, about the tragic antics of a dysfunctional sister duo.

Although this event is free and open to the public, space is limited. To register or for further information, call (602) 285-7667 no later than Wednesday, Nov. 12.
