Dental Hygiene Month Promoted by Phoenix College Students

(PHOENIX, Ariz., Oct. 21, 2003)—October is National Dental Hygiene month and PC dental hygiene students are doing their part to raise awareness of the growing need for increased oral health care in the U.S.

On Tuesday, Oct. 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., dental hygiene students will be in Sophomore Square promoting oral hygiene. They will also participate in Phoenix College’s Community Day on Saturday, Oct. 25. During these two events, dental hygiene students will facilitate games with PC participants and give away toothbrushes as prizes. The games will be used as a means to convey important oral hygiene and health information during National Dental Hygiene month.

According to the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), 40 percent of Americans are not getting the care they need. This alarming figure can be tied to several factors, including disparities in the health care system and bureaucratic and legal barriers that prevent dental hygienists from providing needed oral health care services.

Show your support for increasing dental hygiene awareness by stopping by Sophomore Square on October 21 and coming to Phoenix College’s Community Day on October 25.
